I was contracted at Sky TV I as a senior analyst programmer responsible for "merging" around seven seperate PC database application systems into one multi-user system
for the Sales and Marketing department.
I'm not a fan of the product, Sky T.V., which helps sometimes to deliver objective expert advice, out-linning the solution options.
Around 6 months to write a new multi-user networked application system or use the same developer RAD tool DataEase, to extend the most suitable of the existing application databases and produce
a similar multi-user solution in 8-10 weeks.
There are always consequences for each decision, and in this case, "type" of solution built. As an example here if RAD tools are used then the ability to deviate from their capabilities can scuttle a project at any stage, quite often sometime into its expected life-cycle, after the application is in regular use.
With the re-emergence of RAD tools for Web Applications you can bet you bottom dollar that similar issues regarding flexibility and eventual costs that RAD Windows Application tools createde will arise again.
