What the difference between a content management application and a portal application?
The answer is very little, it's got more to do with marketing largely the same thing with a different wrapping
than it has to do with any major difference between the two.
The simple fact is that as software applications evolve so marketing folk decide to rename
the next release and call it a different product. Just as independent motoring journalist, for want of a possibly oversimplified simple analogy, describe new models of cars as "new" they know they are playing the game the industry wants them to play.
Consumers want new features, and portal systems let you maintain and organise the display of your data whereas
content management system just tend to allow you to maintain data. Portal applications are described as an outlet for
data from multiple sources, often from different organisations, but so can a content management system.
