Welcome to this working demo site uploaded on Jan 01st 2007.
So first things first, there's no search engine, it's optimized to be Google friendly, I'm not trying to re-invent the wheel. The ads here and can be switched off for subscribers; meanwhile they may earn me a few pence as all costs are out my pocket.
This site has been built in response to a BBC NewsNight piece
here and the subsequent
blog contribution I made, so here it is, a delivery vehicle aimed at potentialy providing a new more advanced consistent learning resource for school physics students
About the site:
There are two types of Web site, low-grade types that work for all browsers and have few features or advanced types like this with special features.
If you were not equipped with Internet Explorer 5 or better you would not be here.
About this Demo:
1) The PDA contol ( Physics Digital Assistor) zooms into view.
This can occur for any page, article, topic etc where the page has any additional resources.
2) Clicking on a category, e.g Mechanics reveals other page titles under the same category. When there's more than 7 pages under each category you will see numbers appear
allowing you to browse "sets" of 7 titles without the entire screen needing to refresh.
3) Double Click anywhere toggles the magnification by 200%.
4) Calculator appears and will be Scientific when needed.
5 All appearing panels are drag enabled.
Formulas, Laws, Principals, Audio, Video, tips, and questions would be added to the PDA control for each page.
My approach is to keep pages small with lots of detail in a condensed consistent User Interface, I feel such an approach helps give the user the sense of greater control and support.
.
All content and resources for each page here is held in a fully relational database, meaning I built a
structured and managed system (online) powering everything here; so no special software need to create new pages. In plain English, I have created this site, the content and the system that populates the site with the content.
6) There is also a thought bubble which appears, again for each page, to help stand back, exhale and reflect.
It's early days, but I think in several respects you'll find this is the most advanced physics site anywhere; there's more to come but this project needs funding.
