As you probably know Googles engines place Ads on a page based on the content, fortuneatly they do allow you to block / refuse to carry certain Ads.

Switching Advertisements (ads) ON and OFF Programmatically with ASP.NET
Not so much here but more likely on a site that covers a vast ranges of issues, like the News headlines on the
Bear Straps Media site it would be in bad taste to advertise at all on a page that carried news of some major accident, disastor or tragedy.
Whilst it's likely that Google do have some form of sensitivity relating to realtime happenings it's also up to the carrier not to rely on it.
Specifically as I created the API there are fine granular tunning features have been incorporated into the software object models that power this system.
At its most basic level all ads can be switched off on a page by page basis, so on the news section of bearstraps should there be a particularly sensitive headline which in chief editors opinion should'nt be surrounded by any advertising for a time, then it can be switched off and on again immediately at anytime!
